STAFF R&D ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY ENGINEER

Johnson & Johnson Vision R&D is recruiting for a Staff R&D Compliance Engineer  in Jacksonville, Florida.

Interventional Solutions, Orthopaedics, Surgery and Vision The Staff Engineer R&D – Performs a variety of EHS compliance related assignments utilizing a wide range of knowledge.
Works at an advanced technical level involving planning, development, process/procedure implementation, and compliance management.
Reviews progress and evaluates results of multiple projects across various disciplines.
Coordinates teams of R&D Associates as necessary to achieve project completion.
Facilitates and conducts Compliance assignments involving projects of major magnitude and scope.
Takes a leading position in activities involved with internal and external customers to include regulatory agencies.
Acts as advocate for continuous improvement of technology and processes.  Works with all levels of associates, including executive management to ensure compliance.
The Staff Engineer R&D – Leads specific EH&S compliance activities, as assigned by management, within the R&D organization, ensuring conformance to J&J and regulatory requirements.  Acts as a backup R&D Liaison in some building related services/issues with facilities, security and other organizations.
The Staff Engineer R&D – Defines complex issues; recommends and guides implementation of functional strategies in assigned areas of responsibilities; manages departmental/projects day-to-day operations within area of responsibility.
Spokesperson for areas of assigned responsibilities.
Technical expert for functional area; makes the complex clear and compelling; conceptual knowledge of all responsible functions and business areas.
Represents the department/project in providing solutions to difficult technical issues.
The Staff Engineer R&D – Resolves and manages technical and tactical operational problems.
Establishes key operating practices for department/project in areas of responsibilities, ensuring cross-functional synergy.  Develops and implements initiatives to delivery customer value at lowest cost in areas of responsibility.
The Staff Engineer R&D – Holds people accountable for measurable results.
Provides coaching, useful feedback, and direction to associates.
Promotes the business value of diverse perspectives.
Influences and persuades to bring about process and technical improvements.
Key Responsibilities.
Main areas of responsibility ·       Acts as an R&D Liaison with JJVC EH&S staff.
·       Owns, directs and monitors compliance for the R&D organizations to specific JJVC, EGOPs and SGOPs as assigned by management.
·       Develops and implements new programs, processes and procedures to improve compliance within the R&D organizations with a focus on lean initiatives.
·       Works as a key team member on R&D projects to address potential compliance concerns and resolve issues.
·       Maintains appropriate documentation to support R&D compliance needs and provides input to EH&S as needed for EH&S reporting.
·       Facilitates all internal and external assessment preparations for R&D to meet compliance requirements.
·       Coordinates the R&D 90-day waste storage room to ensure that waste materials are appropriately labeled, stored, shipped, tracked, and disposed or recycled in compliance with JJVC and regulatory procedures.
·       Coordinate and participate as an active member or incident commander in all emergency response activities in support of R&D.
·       Provide training or presentations as required to R&D to maintain/improve current compliance and EH&S Culture.
·       Provide updates and recommendations to management at all levels as necessary.
·       Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
(5%) Qualifications Education.
Bachelor’s degree – Preferably in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences, or Engineering/Chemistry related field.   Experience and Skills.
Required.
6 years Environmental Health & Safety experience Chemistry knowledge and understanding is highly valued.
Complete understanding of OSHA compliance regulations and knowledge of EPA and ISO environmental compliance standards.
Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to team well with other engineers and scientists.
Preferred.
·       Experience in R&D operations or manufacturing.
Certified safety Professional CSP/ Certified Industrial Hygienist CIH Tactical regulatory and business knowledge to drive compliance improvement process.
Broad based technical knowledge and skills in diverse areas of business (e.
.
operations, laboratories, research & development, drug development process).
Ability to effectively negotiate and partner with colleagues from a wide variety of disciplines and organizational levels.
