BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIVISION With growing humanitarian needs far outpacing increases in funding better planning is critical to improve WFPs efficiency and ability to operate in an environment with frequent supply chain disruptions.
To that end WFP has established a team of experts in Supply Chain Planning & Optimization (SPOs) that apply best practices in supply chain management and advanced analytics to humanitarian operations using their unique expertise to develop integrated sourcing and delivery plans provide operational foresight in support of data-driven decision-making and optimize operational design both for WFP operations and those of its partners.
SPOs share a cross-functional knowledge of operations enabling end-to-end supply chain planning and increased coordination across functions.
By automating complex data crunching and reconciliation across units and systems SPOs allow key staff to better manage their time and focus on more value-added tasks such as analyzing various planning scenarios and alerting on issues and potential risks.

from 3 to 12 months (flexible) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Working closely with the Supply Chain Planning & Optimization unitand in particular with the Prisma teamthe selected candidate will contribute to WFPs efforts to integrate Artificial Intelligence into Prisma WFPs operational visibility and planning platform.
The intern will support the following activities.
Assist in the design and testing of AI-enabled features within Prisma including natural language planning queries intelligent alerting and guided workflows.
Contribute to user testing sessions gather feedback from Country Offices and document performance usability and user experience of AI co-pilot functionalities.
Support data validation processes by identifying common data issues and assessing the potential of AI to streamline data hygiene tasks across LESS COMET and other systems.
Help structure frequently asked questions and user pain points that can inform the design of AI-driven support (e.
.
tooltips contextual help or guided walkthroughs).
Participate in the monitoring and documentation of pilot rollouts capturing lessons learned and potential scale-up pathways.
Provide coordination support to the project team including organizing meetings tracking deliverables and ensuring alignment with broader Prisma and AIP developments.
Assist in preparing internal communication and knowledge-sharing materials on AI-related developments within Prisma tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Support other tasks related to the project as required STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Be a masters student or a recent graduate in Data Science Business Analytics Computer Science Information Engineering or a related technical field.
Excellent written and spoken English is required (C-level).
Working knowledge of Italian or another UN language (French Spanish Arabic Chinese Russian or Portuguese) is an asset.
Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks (e.
.
TensorFlow PyTorch) and hands-on experience in building or supporting AI products is required.
Experience with data science tools such as Python (Pandas Scikit-learn) SQL and data visualization using Power BI or similar is expected.
Demonstrated ability to structure and analyze operational and business datasets with experience in customer analytics scenario modelling or classification tasks.
Exposure to agile product development and experience coordinating across cross-functional teams is desirable.
Familiarity with enterprise data platforms (e.
.
Palantir Foundry AIP) or tools such as JIRA and Figma is a plus TRAINING COMPONENTS Throughout the assignment the selected candidate has access to an industry-leading learning platform weLearn.
Depending on opportunities and availability of funds he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars as appropriate.
The Supply Chain Division complements this with a training program that introduces new staff to the different elements that make up WFPs complex supply chain from procurement and quality control to shipping and warehousing.
The selected candidate will also go through the Planning branchs onboarding programme which involves training sessions with other planning officers in headquarters and the field.
The training will include introductions to the humanitarian sector and WFPs supply chain operations and is complemented with hands-on training on a suite of analytical solutions that support supply chain planning analyses.
LEARNING ELEMENTS At the end of the assignment the selected candidate will have gained.
Knowledge of WFPs overall operations and activities as well as best practices in the optimization of supply chains for humanitarian operations.
Valuable skills in the utilization and development of open-source analytics to support supply chain planning analyses in engaging with supply chain stakeholders on end-to-end supply chain plans and in presenting analytical insights to supply chain managers.
TYPE OF ASSIGNMENT The selected candidate will receive IT equipment training material and medical insurance coverage; however financial compensation is not provided by WFP.
