Thermal Protection Engineer
Avio S.P.A.
lug 2019 - Attualmente
Responsible of external thermal protection (ETP) systems for VEGA, VEGA C and VEGA Evolution launch
vehicles (LVs). In addition to the sizing and design, I am also involved in the manufacturing process, the ETP
installation on the different structures (SRMs and inter-stages), where non-conformity analyses, processing
and resolution are required.
Furthermore, I have been involved in the design and manufacturing of internal thermal protections (ITP) of
solid rocket motors, for both VEGA and VEGA C LVs. In this time, I also had the opportunity to follow the
expertise operations foreseen on ITP of solid rocket motors (SRMs) after static firing tests (SFT).
Detailed achievements:
-ETP design and sizing
-Processing and resolution of product non-conformity reports
-Official documents reduction (technical notes, technical specifications, general requirement specifications,
test plan for material characterizations)
-Monitoring of integration and manufacturing processes in AVIO factory (Colleferro plant)
-After firing inspections of both ETP (on equipments) and ITP.
-Team working and problem solving
Research Fellow
Avio S.P.A.
lug 2018 - lug 2019
Responsible of ETP systems for different launch vehicles.
Sizing and design of ETP was performed using CMA numerical code (Aerotherm Charring Material Thermal
Response and Ablation numerical code). During this year I followed also ETP manufacturing operations
and installation processes inside AVIO factory. Furthermore, I was also involved in the monitoring process of
SRMs integration (igniter and nozzle sides).
Internship
Avio S.P.A.
lug 2017 - dic 2017
Internship period scheduled during II Level Master in Space Transportation Systems, with final thesis work:
Solid rocket burn − out modelling applied to VEGA propulsion.
A Fortran code was developed to study the thermal behavior of internal thermal protection materials
exploited on SRMs, subjected to the ablation phenomenon, with particular focus on tail-off and burn-out
motor phases. Detailed achievements:
-Development, verification and validation of the Fortran subroutine
-Integration into a ballistic code for SRMs to evaluate overall propulsive performance and residual thrust
during stage separation

II Level Master in Space Transportation and Re-entry Vehicles
La Sapienza Università di Roma
dic 2016 - dic 2017
Second Level Master in Space Transportation Systems. Overall year organized in three periods:
-December 2016-April 2017: lessons held on different topics by professors and experts coming from
european space industries
-May 2017: Educational trip in Europe visiting different research centers (VKI-CNES-CIRA)
-July 2017-December 2017: AVIO Internship and development of thesis work
During the first period some projects were performed and evaluated. As reward for the highest scores, I
have been invited, along with other five students, to visit the Centre Spatial Guyanais (CSG) in Kourou and
to attend to the scheduled launch of VEGA (VV11 Flight).
