Internship Description At Holland America Line we have created a Cadet program that will set you up for a successful career as an Engineer Officer within the Holland America Group upon your graduation.
u00a0 As you will appreciate, the criteria for selection into the Cadetship Program at Holland America Line is very high, this is based on a combination of motivation, initiative, perseverance and naturally the right essential capabilities.
00a0 u00a0 Would you be selected to join the cadetship program, and upon successful completion of the internship and graduation, you'll be assured the opportunity to continue with Holland America Group as a 3rd Engineer Officer.
Please do keep in mind that the entry level contract lengths within the Holland America Group are 4 months on and 2 months off.

Engine Watchu00a0 You'll report to the ship's designated Mentor.
Work is reviewed at several steps along the way for accuracy by his direct supervisors, and others assigned by the Staff Captain/Staff Chief Engineer.

Step 1.
Psychometric test Stage 1 & Marlins English Test Prior to the interview, you will receive a link for the Stage 1 psychometric test/assessment which you would complete online.

00a0 An English Marlins Test will be required to be completed to measure your English proficiency.
u00a0 Step 2.
00a0 Invitation interview Based on the Stage 1 test results, you will be invited for an interview.
Psychometric test Stage 2u00a0 After the interview, you will receive a link for the Stage 2 psychometric test/assessment from our VTS Test Player system.
00a0 Step 3.
Selection Once all the candidates have sucesfully completed the tests and interviewing process, we will advise you of the final selection in order to join our Cadet Program.
Please note that for the Cadet Program only 36 cadets will be selected for their internship onboard one of our vessels.

00a0 Major Functions and responsibilities Gain experience in relevant aspects of shipboard activities as they occur on board ships on which the trainee is sailing.
Apply and expand the knowledge and skills acquired at school in shipboard practice.
Build a practical basis to achieve the standards of competence in accordance with table A-II/1 and A-III/1 of the STCW-code.
Build a practical basis to achieve the standards of competence in accordance with regulations VII/2 and VIII/2 and the corresponding parts of the STCW-code relating to principles in keeping a navigational watch and the corresponding sections of Part A and B of the STCW-code relating to basic principles to be observed in keeping an engineering watch.
Prepare for a future position on board.
Tasks as assigned by the Staff Engineer or Assigned Mentor Problem solving and decision making.
Safety comes always first and the Engineer Cadet makes effective decisions during his work and reports all his finding to his direct supervisor.
The position requires basic engineering problem solving skills.
An ability to demonstrate efficient decision making and communicates effective with their supervisor is also needed.

License and/or schooling.
Flag State issued Seaman Book Enrolled in a Cadetship program HBO and MBO level education (Dutch) and Foundation degree education (British) Experience Prior knowledge of safety and seamanship, electronics, machining and fabrication, and general maintenance skills Desire to learn the Maritime trade and specifically about working on Cruise Ships
