Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine’s Oncology TA supports innovative research, development and commercialization efforts for key pipeline assets and marketed products. The Global Therapeutic Area Communication Leader (TACL) for Oncology strategizes and oversees the overall external positioning for the TA as well as Interventional Oncology unit and related portfolios.
This strategic role is responsible for overseeing and executing internal and external communication strategies for multiple oncology disease areas including multiple myeloma and other hematological malignancies, bladder, lung, and prostate cancers.
Your role will contribute to the growth, reputation, and overall success of J&J in Oncology.
Key Responsibilities.
-Develop and execute strategic communication plans for global disease areas across Hematology, Solid Tumors Cardiovascular, and Interventional Oncology.
- Lead, manage, and provide strategic counsel to senior leaders and teams within the R&D and GCSO functions for Oncology and Interventional Oncology.
- Drive workforce engagement and productivity through effective internal communication strategies that foster a meaningful culture among colleagues and partners.
- Implement comprehensive internal and external communication strategies to support the organization's high-profile global R&D business, pipeline assets, and emerging products.
- Oversee stakeholder activation strategies, deal communication, partner management, and external collaborations to enhance the organization's reputation and business impact.
- Collaborate closely with regional and local businesses, supply chain, corporate communications, investor relations, government affairs, and other functions to ensure alignment and consistent messaging across the organization.
- Enhance internal visibility and reputation of the therapeutic areas within the organization, fostering a strong working relationship between R&D and commercial teams.
- Leverage external networks, including key advocacy groups, NGOs, institutional stakeholders, and academia, to expand collaborations and drive innovation within the therapeutic areas.
- Provide leadership to a team of professionals, overseeing their professional growth, performance, and development within a matrixed environment.
- Support the Global Head of Global Portfolio Communications in coordinating and leading a global team, ensuring effective processes and standards are in place to maximize productivity and alignment across the organization and in support of the Global Portfolio Communications evolution into a Center of Excellence for product communications across J&J Innovative Medicine • Provides strong strategic, executive communications counsel to R&D and GCSO leaders • Serves as a business leader, sitting on multiple TA leadership teams Leads review of business partners’ disclosure press releases and Business Review presentation Qualifications Education.
A Bachelor’s degree is required.
An advanced degree in Communications or Journalism is preferred.
Required.
Minimum of ten (10) years of experience leading and managing communication in a company, NGO, government agency or public relations agency is required.
Strong business acumen and demonstrated ability to build deep, authentic, successful relationships with top executives and scientists and strong influence with senior internal and external stakeholders is required.
Proven track record of successful, independent public relations/communications, corporate communication, science communication, product communication, public affairs, and/or media relations achievements is required.
Ability to manage internal and external networks in a matrixed environment is required.
Global mindset and successful track record of working in a global function, with direct experience of leading on international projects, issues and teams, and of competent internal and external stakeholder interactions on an international basis is required.
Demonstrated thorough knowledge of R&D processes, market access, and the global landscape and key issues for biopharmaceutical science and innovation is required.
Strong experience in crisis/issues management and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, global matrix environment is required.
Deep understanding of traditional media, digital and social platforms and strong experience dealing with national and local lay, professional/trade and social media is required.
Experience in managing budgets and resource allocation across large critical projects is required.
Preferred.
Proven experience in pharma R&D, Commercial and science communication or public affairs Current or past work experience in oncology is a plus.
Current or past experience with direct people management skills is preferred.
Proven ability to keep team on leading edge of communications, change management, technology, social and other key trends.
Working knowledge of the financial disclosure process is preferred.

This position will be based in Raritan, NJ, and requires up to 25% domestic and international travel.
