Your Opportunity Are you a legally astute professional with a commercial mindset and a strong interest in re/insurance? We are seeking a talented Legal Counsel to join our Corporate Solutions Legal EMEA team and support Swiss Re’s dynamic commercial insurance and reinsurance business.
Based in Milan, this role focuses on providing high-impact legal advice in the area of commercial insurance and reinsurance.
This position reports directly to the Head Legal EMEA for Corporate Solutions.
What You Will Do As a Legal Counsel, you will be a trusted legal partner to Swiss Re's businesses and specifically to the Head Italy Corporate Solutions, providing regulatory and transactional legal support to underwriters and business stakeholders.
Your main responsibilities will include.
Analyze and advise on complex regulatory and novel legal issues Draft, negotiate, and advise on insurance policies, reinsurance agreements, and other transactional documents (e.
., collateral agreements) Support the design and implementation of international insurance programs, fronting solutions, and tailored transactions for corporate clients or cedents, including alternative risk transfers Serve as a trusted legal advisor and initial point of contact for our Italian business Act as lead legal advisor on complex cross-border insurance and reinsurance transactions and handle regional legal issues and developments Provide legal support in the negotiation and structuring of distribution agreements Engage with brokers and other intermediaries to ensure regulatory compliance and alignment with Swiss Re's commercial objectives Collaborate across functions – including Compliance, Underwriting, Risk, Finance, and Operations – for a holistic legal approach Support dispute resolution, claims, and policy interpretation as needed Stay abreast of legal trends and advise on evolving regulatory frameworks in Italy and the EU   About the Team You’ll be part of a supportive, collaborative legal team of 10 lawyers embedded in the EMEA business of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions.

About You We are looking for a legally rigorous yet pragmatic professional who can navigate complex reinsurance and insurance matters with confidence and clarity.
You will bring.
Bar admission in Italy (additional European bar admissions a plus) At least 6+ years of post-qualification legal experience, ideally with exposure to reinsurance and insurance law in a law firm or in-house role Deep understanding of Italian insurance and reinsurance regulation; familiarity with broader EU regulatory frameworks a plus Proven experience negotiating and advising on reinsurance and/or complex insurance transactions Strong interpersonal skills, with a collaborative and solution-oriented mindset Excellent communication skills and fluency in Italian and English; other languages (e.
., French, German) are an advantage Ability to balance legal detail with commercial objectives and convey complex legal issues to senior stakeholders clearly A growth mindset, strong work ethic, and willingness to engage in cross-border and cross-functional work   Why Join Us?
