April 30 th, About the Institute Human Technopole (HT) is a new interdisciplinary life science research institute, created and supported by the Italian government, with the aim of developing innovative strategies to improve human health.
HT has the mission of conducting cutting-edge research and to translate innovation into methods and tools available to the entire National scientific community.
To this end, HT is opening National Facilities that will provide world-class research infrastructure for Structural Biology, Light Imaging Microscopy, Genomics, Genome Engineering, and Data Handling and Analysis.
About the Biophysics Unit The National Facility for Structural Biology, a scientific and technological hub for integrative structural biology, will provide support and services in the field of Cryo-Electron Microscopy, Biomass Production, Biophysics, Structural Proteomics and Single Molecule Dynamics.
In this context, the Biophysics Unit of the National Facility for Structural Biology is seeking to recruit a research technician who will actively participate in maintaining instruments and workflows, take part in scientific collaborations, and support internal and external users.
The Biophysics Unit manages equipment and provides service/support to researchers for biophysical characterisation of macromolecular samples, and the determination/characterisation of interaction affinities.
Your main activities By joining the Unit, the candidate will be requested to.
perform routine maintenance and management of the Unit equipment; introduce and train internal and external users to Unit’s equipment usage, and how to get the most from planned biophysical experiments; perform experiments and provide services for non-autonomous users, according to the Unit and National Facility best practices; perform and support users in data analysis and interpretation.
The selected candidate will report directly to the manager of the Biophysics Unit within the Structural Biology National Facility and will work in close collaboration with other Units of the National Facility and research groups of the Structural Biology Research Centre.
Additional activities may include, but not be limited to.
actively participate in resource planning and maintenance of the Unit equipment, and consumables; assist with interactions with manufacturers and field service engineers in case of technical issues and malfunctions of the Unit equipment; manage technological development projects, whose purpose is to advance the Unit and the institute’s scientific environment; actively participate in National Facility and Unit reviews by external and internal experts; promote networks with other national and international Facilities and Units.
Essential Requirements master’s degree or PhD in a scientific discipline; fluency in English – HT is an international research institute.
Preferred Requirements knowledge on biochemical and/or biophysical characterisation of macromolecular samples; experience on protein expression and purification; experience in protein/nucleic acid chromatography; working experience in the structural biology field.
Organizational and social skills fluency in English – HT is an international research institute; ability and interest to learn or develop new methodologies; excellent interpersonal skills, ability to build trust through operating with transparency and creating an open and collaborative environment; ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment and to work independently; ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
